InsertPress
An automatic heat-set insert machine I’m designing and building. The goal: load a plate of 3D-printed parts, press start, and have the machine read the STL, find every insert hole, and press each brass insert square and flush on its own.
- Designing and building the machine at Northeastern University’s EXP makerspace.
- Spring-floated press head, a threaded insert pickup, and a closed-loop heated tip.
- Companion Planner software, now on version 8: it reads the STL, finds the insert holes, checks the iron’s clearance, and generates the G-code for each run.
